Tom's Hobbies

A railway specialist shop specialising in British OO, American and Australian locos and rollingstock, with a huge selection of modelling accessories including hard to get items. Good sale prices and discounts of up to 20% often apply.

Train Trader

Train trader has a large range of European locos (mainly Marklin), a good selection of 2nd hand vintage British OO, and a bunch of 2nd hand books, buildings and accessories. Prices can be a tad high on 2nd hand items.

Woodpecker Model Railways

Woodpecker specialises in all those hard to get imported items necessary for making the prototypical layout. Also a huge range of HO and OO locos and rolling stock. They also have heaps of busses, road vehicles, decalls, brass etchings etc. Picture

This is our local, with Steve, Bob, and Ian always prepared to offer good advice and friendly service. Branchline had a huge range of British, American and Australian, with some European as well. The stock most guages including N, HO/OO. and even some O and G. Plenty of kits, accessories, catalogues, videos and an ever changing supply of 2nd hand locos and rolling stock.

Hobbies Plus

A bit out of the way being located at Stratford in Victoria's Gippsland area. A small shop with a reasonable selection of new and 2nd hand locos & rolling stock. The shop also boasts a museum of Australian railway paraphernalia. Well worth a look if you're passing through.

Metropolitan Model & Hobby Centre

Metro Hobbies specialises in plastic model kits, radio controlled cars, steam engines, air brushes etc. It has a limited range of model rail scenic materials, but does is a good source of 1:72 scale Airfix kits for those wishing to model wartime British scenes.

Rail 'n' Thusiast

Specialists in N & HO American railway models. However is a good source of pretty cheap Peco track, point motors and pointwork.

The Railfan Shop

This is a specialist railway bookshop, stocking every conceivable magazine and publication on Austalian, Americam locos, with a good selection of British and some Euorpean as well. New lines as well as 2nd hand items in store. The store offers a magazine subscription service charging magazine cost plus postage to anywhere in Australia.

Train World

Vast range of imported railway books, magazines and source material. Also huge selection of Dapol rolling stock and OO locos. Prices pretty good, and great mail order service.

City Models

This is a two storey ship in Perth's Piccadilly Arcade. Bottom floor is mainly die-cast road vehicles (busses, cars, Dinki & Corgi etc). Upstairs has a very large model rail section with mainly British stuff, lots of 2nd hand items, lots of lineside accessories, scenicing materials and a bunch of 2nd hand books.

Maylands Model Railways

Not sure about this one. Never visited it, however they claim to buy and sell from one item to complete collections. Peter is the guy to talk to.

Perth Hobby Centre

A great all round hobby shop with a fairly large selection of American and British HO/OO & N gauge R to R stock, as well as an excellent range of scenic materials, kits and even some 2nd hand Airfix/Dapol rolling stock. Picture

Stanbridges Hobbies

One of the oldest and most respected dealeers in Australia, making model railways a specialty along with most other hobbies. Their railweay dept has heaps of British OO including Bachmann, Hormby, Dapol etc. Picture

Triking Model Cars

This place specialises in die-cast road vehicles. Has some 1:76 busses and other items of interest to the railway modeller including some Lledo vehicles.

Hobby Habit

General hobby shop with a reasonable selection of scenic materials, Ratio kits, and some locos and rolling stock.

Model railway specialists. American and British.

Orient Express

These guys specialise in European, with a smaller selection of British. Lots of kits and accessories.

John's Hobbies (Townsville)

A new discovery for mixedtraffic.net, Johns is located in Aitkenvale and carries a full spectrum of hobby materials. On the railway side of things, John's is good for N gauge American with a bit of HO thrown in. Plenty of scenicing materials are also available and also a limited range of lineside kits etc.

Fisher Discount

Cross between a builders tool and materials supplier and a train shop, the entire top floor is crammed with bargains jammed into every available space. Discounts of up to 20% on already cheap prices make it well worth a visit.
